Why work inspires me to write

In my opinion the work of an interpreter takes you into physical environments that are not easily accessible to the public, i.e. government facilities, management meeting rooms etc. I believe those that have never been invited to those places find it fascinating to read about them.
Through work we also come close to political, industrial, and social decision makers, and in the EU Commission and Parliament we observe future laws and directives being discussed and elaborated years before they are enforced in our different countries. In fact my second book in Swedish was inspired by something I overheard at a hearing at the EU Parliament. Of course, it changed into something very different as I wrote the book.
In my books every single place described is real, I have been there, almost always because of my work as an interpreter.
The ship described as the booty in The Asset is a real stealth ship that I had occasion to see and even go inside at the Shipyard described in the book when I was there with a real delegation from South America (of course quite different from the people I describe, in order to respect privacy and the reason for their visit). The government dining room with its glasses, plates and silverware is real, I was there.
I have always loved spy novels, and my favorite author is John LeCarré, once I decided to write a book, I knew it had to be a spy novel.

Na minha opinião, o trabalho de um intérprete o leva a ambientes físicos que não são facilmente acessíveis ao público, ou seja, dependências governamentais, salas de reunião da administração, etc. Acredito que aqueles que nunca foram convidados para esses lugares achem fascinante ler sobre eles.
Por meio do trabalho, também nos aproximamos dos tomadores de decisões políticas, industriais e sociais, e na Comissão e no Parlamento da UE observamos as futuras leis e diretrizes sendo discutidas e elaboradas anos antes de serem implementadas em nossos diferentes países. De fato, meu segundo livro em sueco foi inspirado por algo que ouvi durante uma audiência no Parlamento da UE. Naturalmente, ele se transformou em algo muito diferente quando escrevi o livro.
Em meus livros, todos os lugares descritos são reais, eu estive nesses lugares, quase sempre por causa do meu trabalho como intérprete.
O navio descrito como o saque no The Asset é uma verdadeira embarcação secreta que eu tive a oportunidade de ver e até mesmo de entrar no estaleiro descrito no livro quando eu estive lá com uma delegação da América do Sul (claro que bem diferente das pessoas que descrevo, a fim de respeitar a privacidade e o motivo de sua visita). A sala de jantar do governo com seus copos, pratos e talheres de prata é real, eu estava lá.
Eu sempre adorei romances de espionagem, e meu autor favorito é John LeCarré. Assim que decidi escrever um livro, eu sabia que tinha que ser um romance de espionagem.
